The Mandaue City Plaza is one of the best places to celebrate Christmas in Cebu.

Mandaue City is one of the biggest cities on the island of Cebu. It is home to some of the most popular hotels and malls, bringing in many tourists every year. You can say that it competes with Cebu City in terms of the number of businesses and tourist spots. One notable tourist attraction is the Mandaue City Hall, sometimes called the Mandaue Presidencia. Outside of it, there is a park where you can relax and take a breather. It is also home to Mandaue’s biggest creative contribution to the advent season.

Mandaue natives know that Christmas in the Philippines is best spent in a place that is littered with many Christmas decorations, so many decorations that you’ll feel like you’re in another town, city, or country entirely. Every town on the island seems to want to compete with each other with regards to who has the best Christmas displays. In December, the Mandaue City plaza presents a Christmas lights show, illuminating the night sky with many hues, shades, and palettes fit for Santa and his elves.

It all starts with the facade of the city hall, with every corner and crevice covered in lights. If you are a fan of architecture, you will love the Neo-Grec design of the building and be in awe of the lights forming the edges of the city hall perfectly.

The classic holiday setup of a huge Christmas tree is still present, but it is unlike any other Christmas tree. Mandaue City opted for a more minimalistic yet colorful look for their tree. It may not be as flashy as the ones in other tourist spots, but they are still impressive creations regardless.

If Mandaue City Hall brings in the looks, the plaza adds in to the fun. The large space is great for those who want to sit down and have a leisurely stroll. Christmas celebration in the Philippines is an opportunity for artists and decorators to show off their skills. Lights and ornaments hang from the branches of trees, perfect for the holidays. There are benches below these trees so you can relax and appreciate the overall ambiance.

Every Christmas display has a portion that one would be very happy to take photos with, and the plaza has that as well. There is a walkway of colorfully lit arches which you will definitely enjoy walking under. You can use it as a colorful runway to pose and smile for the camera. You will definitely marvel at its beauty and design, and you will be looking forward to it every year.

They also redesigned the Mandaue City Public Library to fit the festive theme. They renamed it Santa’s House and filled it with the same orange lights that illuminate the facade and plants to complement the small building.

But if there is a highlight of this particular Christmas destination, it might be the small dome in the middle, shaped like a Christmas ball ornament (also known as a Christmas bubble). You can go inside and take pictures. Although it’s not that spacious, you can gaze in wonder at the lights surrounding the entire layout. There aren’t a lot of things to do other than that, but you will definitely experience the festive vibe.

This place is usually crowded with people trying to take photos with their friends, so make the most of your stay there. This could easily be the reason why you would want to experience this Cebu tourist spot, especially on Christmas.

The dome found in the center of the Mandaue City Plaza is a place that most tourists and locals go to.

The plaza is also close to the National Shrine and Parish of Saint Joseph, which is one of the biggest churches in Mandaue. What makes Christmas in the Philippines unique is the Misa de Gallo tradition, which refers to attending mass at early dawn, starting from December 16 until Christmas Eve.

The trees outside the church also have lights similar to the design in the plaza. If you want to experience the type of Christmas that Filipinos celebrate, then maybe you can wake up early in the morning to attend and complete the dawn masses.

Also, there are nearby restaurants and fast-food chains in the plaza which you can go to if you start to get hungry. You may also go to popular malls such as Parkmall and J Center, both of which are a jeepney ride away.

There are definitely a lot of fun things to do in the Philippines during Christmas, considering the many towns and cities trying to make their areas as festive as they possibly can. Cebu is no exception. Although it’s an ideal place to go and enjoy a great Christmas display, Mandaue City is a close second, and it is one of the biggest cities on the island that one can take delight in traveling around in. With so many ways to celebrate the holiday season, it would indeed be beneficial to take note of the most famous places like the Mandaue Plaza, especially if you plan on spending Christmas in Cebu.
