Pasilong sa Naga: The New Southern Cebu Architectural Wonder

Share this:

Pasilong sa Naga is a newly opened public park in Southern Cebu that showcases impressive architecture.

There are many Southern Cebu tourist spots that locals and foreign tourists visit and explore on a daily basis. These include an extensive list of secluded beaches, historical churches, and culinary establishments serving the island’s most iconic delicacies.

In the Industrial Hub of Southern Cebu, the City of Naga Boardwalk is a popular place to unwind and enjoy one’s afternoon, but the list of attractions in the area is now longer thanks to a brand new public park that recently opened.

In order to bring more outdoor attractions to the masses, Pasilong sa Naga was set up near the city hall and plaza for people to take a break from the city’s busy lifestyle.

GET SOME SHADE IN SOUTHERN CEBU

Not many parks in Cebu are this attractive and awe-inspiring.

Literally translating to “get some shade in Naga,” this public park aims to use intricate architecture to give visitors something to feast their eyes on.

Pasilong sa Naga was designed by Kenneth Cobonpue, a world renowned Cebuano designer, also known for designing the famous Sky Park at SM Seaside Cebu.

A quick Google image search will show you the auteur’s masterful handcrafted designs that are made from natural materials, giving off a peculiar yet interesting representation.

The park consists of several large interlocking rings that are used in different ways. According to Cobonpue, these represent the “The Circle of Life, nature’s way of taking and giving back to the Earth.”

Two interlocking circles form the eye-catching walkway, which will definitely be a perfect spot for photoshoots. Two other circles in the middle will have water flowing from above, to make for a different form of fountain.

Apart from the famous City of Naga Boardwalk, people can also visit this newly opened attraction.

Currently, the park is open from 6AM to 8AM in the morning, and 4PM to 10PM in the evening. This is in line with following health protocols, maintaining the park’s cleanliness, and enjoying the spectacle more once the sun goes down. As you can see in the photos, the beautiful pattern and display are a sight to behold.

Many parks like the Plaza Independencia and Fuente Osmeña Circle look beautiful under the moonlight, which is why they are the perfect Cebu nightlife spots for budget travelers who avoid parties or drinking sessions.

Taking a photo with this iconic piece in the background is a must among the things to do in Cebu at night. The illuminating lights bring much needed color and personality to the detailed architecture.

Aside from the circular walkways, there are also a couple of tables and chairs situated under the trees. This is the place for you to sit back and relax while enjoying a quick snack and spending time with loved ones.

Under the large trees are tables and chairs for you to dine and relax, making it the perfect place to unwind.

Its distance from the Naga Plaza is also an advantage, as spending the evening in the City of Naga makes for budget-friendly food trips and a peaceful stroll along the baywalk and wide open space.

It is also directly in front of another recently opened tourist spot, the Museo Naga, where you can learn about the past of one of Cebu’s most popular cities.

In an effort to boost tourism in Southern Cebu, they also opened Museo Naga.

Finally, the park doesn’t have an entrance fee, so it is a very cheap option for tourists who are visiting Southern Cebu. However, as of October 2021, the number of people allowed inside is limited to 50, and you are only allowed to enter the park for 30 minutes.

HOW TO GET THERE

Pasilong sa Naga is right in front of the Naga Plaza, across from the church along the road. However, some parts in the South are infamous for heavy traffic, so maybe you can go earlier in the afternoon to avoid rush hour.

For commuters, you can ride any jeepney that passes by Naga at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in Punta Princesa, but make sure to ask if they will pass by the city, since some will only stop by the town before it.

Though resorts and churches are among the most famous Southern Cebu attractions, many municipalities and towns have their own spots for locals and tourists to visit. Pasilong sa Naga will most likely be a place that the city will market and be proud of. With a design that will surely leave visitors in awe, it is a spot for everyone to see.
