The Grid Food Park in Talamban: A Creative’s New Home

The colorful walls of the Grid give personality to an already interesting food park.

Cebuanos are a dexterous bunch of Filipinos. With a paintbrush and coloring materials, they have showcased their artistic flair, and their expertise in the kitchen has satisfied many hungry patrons. Those skills are in full display at a food park in Talamban, which aims to create an expressive backdrop above an irresistible potluck.

The Grid in Nasipit is a spot for the future Van Goghs and the aspiring Bourdains of the Queen City of the South. This colorful cargo container concoction carries quality cooking and creative crafts into a perfect hangout spot. This roadside stopover has tons of selections for a food trip, but has some interesting qualities that make it more than what it seems.

A CREATIVE'S FOOD PARK

Two lines of benches are surrounded by a diversity of food stalls, aiming to make a name for themselves in the food industry.

A long line of delicious cuisine from many cultures worldwide introduces you to this new attraction. Food bazaars often sell the best food in Cebu due to their value, and this park’s lineup of startups are the city’s up and coming specialties. You can expect iconic street food, mouth-watering cheat day meals, sweet desserts and unexpected favorites.

Their dishes range from the classic to the obscure. Savory dishes like unlimited chicken wings, rice bowls and Cebuano food delicacies like Humba and Tuslob Buwa make an ideal budget friendly dinner for less than 200Php. Transport yourself outside the country with the fusion food that the park has to offer.

You can satisfy your sweet tooth with some Boba Tea, Halo Halo or cakes and pastries. Several stores sell alcohol, but make sure to stay sober since this is still a public place. With its limitless selection, you can have a full course meal, but this is more than just a place to eat.

The colorful walls add personality to the startup businesses at The Grid Food Park.

The Grid is a great place for young creatives to gain the spark that they need. The colorful gradients and palettes give personality to the otherwise minimalist container vans. They even have a spot where they show off artwork from Cebuano artists, so if art galleries are your thing you should really check this place out.

Your favorite food park in Cebu may have the usual suspects like meals and music, but the Grid is a mini community and business center. There’s a cosmetic shop for beauty products and a vape shop for vape pens. You can even do your laundry, or purchase a used laptop at PC Bee. If you are looking to get some serious work done, they also offer commercial spaces, office rentals and studios for their customers.

On the second floor of the food park, there are spaces where you can either do your business, or stay and relax.

If you are also wondering where to stay in Cebu, then this park also has apartments and dorms for less than 10,000 Php. You can stay right above the busy food bazaar, so imagine seeing all the hungry customers as soon as you walk down from your humble abode. Business at the top, and a party right below it.

This is a great hangout spot if you live in the Talamban area, which has improved as more establishments begin to open. This has caused quite some traffic though, so try to avoid coming over during rush hour.

HOW TO GET THERE

Facade of The Grid

The Grid can be found along the road in Nasipit, Barangay Talamban in Northern Cebu City, a few meters ahead of the University of San Carlos - Talamban Campus.

The Grid isn’t that hard to find, as any jeepney that passes Talamban can take you there. It is on the side of the road, a few meters ahead of the University of San Carlos Talamban Campus. You can find many public utility vehicles in Uptown Cebu City going to Talamban in spots like Ayala and IT Park, and you can still take a taxi to get there. You can also bring your own private vehicle, and park it right in front of the food park.

The Grid opens early in the morning, but other stalls open at around 11AM. Nighttime, however, is when food parks get most of their customers, so you can visit the place after 6PM to experience the busy atmosphere. The food park closes at 10PM.

You don’t have to physically go there to try their food though. Some of the stalls can deliver their food at your doorstep thanks to food delivery services like Foodpanda. If you can’t go there, but are craving some of their good food, this could be a valuable option.

The Grid is one food park that you can add into the best food trip in Cebu. Its creative aesthetics and endless selection of cheap food, it is a valuable alternative to places like Sugbo Mercado. Getting there may be difficult if you don’t live nearby, but if you are willing to drive, and endure the heavy traffic on rush hour, then this could be a new hangout spot, or even home, for you and your creative buddies.
