Cebuanos can now watch the latest movies as mall cinemas begin to operate in December 2021.
As tourism in Cebu picks up, more and more establishments are opening their doors to people who want to take a break, go shopping, or simply enjoy being out of the house. This time, movie buffs can now enjoy more than just their Netflix subscriptions, online streaming services, and downloaded films, because mall cinemas are now back!
Cinemas in several Cebu shopping malls have been given the green light to operate after passing health inspections by the city government.
This indicates a positive shift toward opening more businesses after two years of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This includes two cinemas in Ayala Center Cebu at Cebu Business Park, three in Ayala Central Bloc in IT Park, and the Director’s Club in SM Seaside Cebu.
Since going to the movies is one of the most popular pastimes for Filipino families and movie buffs, this is something that many of us will definitely be looking forward to experiencing again.
Movie theaters are air-conditioned enclosed spaces with seats very close to each other. Health protocols such as social distancing and disinfecting had to be put in place to make sure that moviegoers would be safe.
Cinemas are allowed to allocate a percentage of their capacity, and only fully vaccinated customers and individuals over 18 years old may enter.
Moviegoers will also be required to wear masks at all times, which means that eating inside the theater may not be allowed. They will have people seated alternately to ensure that social distancing protocols are being followed.
Management of the movie theaters are fully vaccinated and tickets can be bought at ticketing booths.
WHAT’S COMING TO THEATERS?
As for the upcoming flicks that will be shown, the malls will be playing a lot of blockbuster movies first, especially recent ones from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and The Eternals, both released earlier in the year in cinemas abroad, will be showing. Black Widow and another MCU movie will also be coming soon.
Another movie planned to be shown is Daniel Craig’s final Bond film, No Time to Die, on December 15, while the highly anticipated Spiderman: No Way Home will come in January, making the Philippines one of the last few countries to experience the movie on the big screen.
ALERT LEVEL 2
The reopening of movie theaters in the Philippines coincides with the downgrade to Alert Level 2, allowing more businesses that were once closed during the pandemic to reopen.
They have also removed the COVID-19 tests as a requirement for travelers to enter the country.
Cinemas 4 and 5 at Ayala Center Cebu started operating on December 1st. These two are located on the top floor.
Ayala Central Bloc at IT Park has Cinemas 1, 3, and 4 open, and all are also located on the top floor near the Timezone arcade.
As for the Director’s Club at SM Seaside, the management has not made an official announcement of their opening, but they have been confirmed to be allowed to operate. You can wait for the official announcement on their social media page.
Other cinemas that have not yet announced their reopening schedule include the ones in Robinsons Galleria, SM City Cebu, and the Oriente on Colon Street.
With movie theaters open, cinephiles now have something to look forward to after two years of staying at home and binge-watching movies and shows on streaming services. This is also a huge benefit for the malls since cinemas have always been a substantial source of revenue for them.
Let us all remember that COVID-19 still exists, and health protocols must be put in place for mall cinemas to flourish amidst the pandemic. Regardless, this is a great update that will surely keep many movie buffs optimistic for the future.
