Cebu Tourism, Trade, among Others to Restart after May 15

COVID-19 has certainly taken its toll on Cebu, including the Cebu tourism and trade industry. With the scheduled end of the enhanced community quarantine on May 15, Cebu Province is eyeing on restarting the economy right away.

However, although there is a need to reopen businesses and offices once the ECQ is lifted, a proper transition should be done. Hence, a modified community quarantine will be implemented. Task Force New Normal will be created as well as guidelines on moving forward after May 15.

According to Governor Gwen Garcia, representatives from the business sectors and government agencies will be part of the task force.

The main source of income of the province, the Cebu tourism and hospitality industry, will be one of the priorities in the economic restart. Countryside job opportunities will also be prevalent. Steps to make sure the province can provide food on its own are also in the works.

They will also be developing guidelines for individuals who travel to Cebu City to work and are living outside the city.

The governor has encouraged everyone to adapt and accept that the situation is different now. She added that with the restart of the economy, a new normal will be observed.

More representatives will be added eventually after lifting the ECQ, and rules and guidelines will then be established. Rest assured, Cebu tourism and trade industry will be opening their doors again once the coronavirus crisis is over.
