Here’s Why Retiring in Cebu Is a Good Idea

You can choose to live whatever lifestyle you want when retiring in Cebu.

Looking for the perfect place to settle down after retirement? Do you prefer the quiet provincial life or an exciting time around the city? Luckily for you, you can experience both lifestyles if you’re planning on retiring in Cebu.

Many foreigners prefer Cebu because of the affordable cost of living, but some fall in love with the people and the culture. They love the carefree nature, the friendly faces, and the many tourist spots so much that they’d rather see them often.

Since you’re thinking about retiring in Cebu, here are the top 4 reasons why it will be worth your while.

REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD CONSIDER RETIRING IN CEBU:

1. FLEXIBLE LIFESTYLE

There are many exciting lifestyles worth pursuing in Cebu, whether you’re more of the fun and adventurous type or someone who’s more laid-back.

The island has a dozen gorgeous locations where you can build your dream home. You could look for a place to set up a business or find a beachfront to open up a resthouse. The latter can be your chance to experience island life.

Some of the best beaches on the island are located north or south, which also make great options if you’re looking to live in the countryside.

Some may prefer to live in the city, where they have access to a number of hotels, malls, and other recreational areas. Cebu is also known for its nightlife scene, with locals and tourists hanging out at bars and clubs late in the evening.

Many tourists have migrated to Cebu where they will be spending the rest of their adult life. Some even end up marrying a Cebuana or owning a lucrative business. But most tourists stay here because of the people.

Experience island life with some of the friendliest people you will ever meet!

2. FRIENDLY, TALENTED PEOPLE

The people around you can be a big factor when it comes to deciding whether or not you should stay in a certain place. Luckily, Filipinos are known to be some of the friendliest people in the world.

Foreigners applaud the hospitality Filipinos show towards them. They will happily give you directions to famous tourist spots, and sometimes even accompany you there.

Cebuanos in particular are some of the funniest, most easy-going Filipinos. It’s a common thing to find Cebuanos inviting you over for a meal or a drink, even in the more far-flung areas on the island.

You also won’t have a hard time communicating with them, since they are pretty good English speakers. Some may have thick accents, but they’re pretty easy to understand.

Aside from historical sites, beaches make popular Cebu attractions.

3. TOURISM

Cebu is no one-trick pony with its tourist spots. Aside from its world-class beaches, there are a handful of malls, restaurants, and historical sites worth checking out.

Mactan, for example, is referred to as the Historic Resort City because of its many breathtaking beaches and resorts. The world-renowned establishments on the island are among the top vacation spots, especially during the summertime.

Cebu also has a rich food culture. Lechon remains the top dish on the island, with its crunchy skin and flavorful meat, which is famous worldwide. Cebuanos are also some of the best seafood chefs in the world, popularizing the concept of Sutukil.

Of course, the most famous event in Cebu is Sinulog. This religious festival is witnessed by millions of devotees all around the world, wanting to witness the traditional dance performances, street parties, and of course, the Grand Parade.

One of the best things about living in the Philippines is the good weather year round.

4. WEATHER

The climate in the Philippines is not too hot nor too cold, so the weather is pretty much pleasant the whole year.

The country only has two seasons, the dry (December – May) and the wet (June – November). The dry season is the best time to go out, cool off, and have a vacation by the beach.

With reasonable living expenses and hospitable people, Cebu is a place tailor made for retiring. Retirees will love all the different tourist spots on the island.

As you move closer to retiring from work, you should definitely consider Cebu as your next living destination. You can live whatever lifestyle you want and experience a brand new environment with a lot of friendly, loving people.

You get to see numerous tourist spots, from beaches to mountains, and enjoy beautiful weather all year long. Rest assured, retiring in Cebu will make experiencing a new chapter in your life more exciting and worthwhile.
