Located in Maribago, Ukehub is inspired by the guitar-making cottage industry in Lapu-Lapu City. They used a unique theme for their quaint but chic restaurant.
However, this breakfast cafe focuses on one specific string instrument – one originating from Hawaii and associated with the laid-back island life – the ukulele.
The most visually striking part of the cafe is its wall of ukuleles, which are all for sale. Each one is meticulously crafted by the luthiers at the Valiente Guitar Factory, owned by an establishment called Susing’s Guitar.
UKULELES IN LAPU-LAPU CITY
The Valiente Guitar Factory in Lapu-Lapu City is known for its world-class guitars, which have been their signature instrument since 2016.
They have also been the go-to manufacturer for ukuleles in Cebu for several years now, providing exceptional products for artists and bands both in Cebu and other parts of the Philippines.
These instruments are well-made with dexterity and precision, giving them a premium design and feel. They come in various designs and make great souvenirs when you visit Cebu.
While you’re at Ukehub, you can try out the ukuleles while waiting for your coffee or food.
If you aren’t well-versed in the instrument, you can take ukulele lessons with other beginners in the cafe. For a 500 Php registration fee, you can get a booklet, drink, and free use of the in-house ukuleles along with the workshop.
For around two hours, you can learn the basic ukulele chords as well as how to tune them. You get to learn around four to five songs by the end of the session.
On weekdays, you can visit the Valiente Guitar Factory and witness the process of making a guitar without the use of advanced technology.
WHAT TO EAT AT UKEHUB
This cafe in Cebu has a vast selection of meals and snacks that you should definitely try out. They have a bunch of coffee drinks, breakfast meals, appetizers, and desserts to satisfy your cravings.
Their bestsellers include the Hub Burger, which is made up of 100% beef burger patty, smoked bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheddar cheese, with a side of crinkle-cut fries.
It’s pretty hefty and a worthy morning starter. If you want an even heftier meal, try out the slow-cooked back ribs, which has a side of buttered corn and carrots.
For beverages, their Homebrewed Iced Tea has a unique zesty flavor, thanks to the calamansi added to give it a Filipino kick. You can also order some coffee – their lattes being a crowd favorite – and pair them up with any of their desserts like the delicious oreo cake.
AL FRESCO AREA
The interiors of the cafe have a chic and relaxing atmosphere with contemporary paintings and architecture, but there are many things to love about its al fresco area as well.
It’s spacious enough for leisurely activities or if you prefer to dine outside. The area can even be used for social gatherings and celebrations.
You can jump up as high as you can atop their in-house trampoline. There are also several tables for you to chill under the clear morning sky or moonlit night.
Speaking of moonlit night, this is when the cafe introduces local bands that will be performing acoustic tunes. Customers can enjoy the music while relaxing on the chairs and tables or on the huge bean bags.
With its combination of good food and reliable handmade instruments, this is one location that foodies and music enthusiasts will definitely enjoy.
Try out their vast array of breakfast favorites, whether it be their pasta, sandwiches, or rice meals, while creating wonderful music with the soothing sound of a ukulele. This cafe promotes two integral parts of Lapu-Lapu City – its food and the guitar-making cottage industry.
