Why Island Hopping Is Perfect for a Summer Getaway

Rent a bangka and visit the many islands of Mactan with your barkada.

Cebu is a summer paradise. Abundant with beaches, mountains, and forests, it’s clear to see why it’s a top vacation spot in the entire country.

Some popular activities on the island include canyoneering and snorkeling, especially in Southern Cebu. However, you might consider island hopping the more ideal option if you want to relax and take your mind off things.

A tour around remote islands in the Philippines helps you unwind and spend a day with nature. It’s an activity that anyone of any age or background can enjoy.

The most popular place to go on an island hopping tour in Cebu is Mactan, home to the historic resort city of Lapu-Lapu. The island is famous for spacious and solemn locations rich in marine life.

If you have not tried going on these tours already, here are some things about the activity that might persuade you.

  • PRICE

To get to the islands, you have to hop on a bangka. Depending on the size, these motorized boats will cost you around Php 2,000 to Php 4,000.

You can split the bill with your companions to spend less. You can also save up on food by bringing your favorite homemade dishes onboard since they won’t charge you a corkage fee.

You can also look for a Cebu tour package to make things easier. These packages offer private transportation to the beach and a barbeque lunch on the bangka.

Know that you will need to pay an entrance fee to step foot on some islands. Make sure to bring extra cash so you can purchase some souvenirs or snacks.

There are many fun activities you can do on an island hopping tour.

  • THE ISLANDS ARE PEACEFUL

The islands included in the tour packages are mostly uninhabited, some with only a few residents. There are barely any crowds, which makes for a comfortable experience for you and your friends.

These are also well-maintained with crystal clear waters and fine white sand shores. Some have rich marine life, making them perfect for freediving and snorkeling.

Boat operators also know specific areas you can swim in if you don’t want to pay extra to enter a certain island. They will provide you with life jackets so you can swim safely in the ocean waters.

YOU DECIDE YOUR ISLAND HOPPING ITINERARY

There are many islands in Mactan, but you cannot see them all in one day. You should know the most popular ones that tourists usually visit.

Research some of the most famous islands and decide which one you want to see. Talk to the boatmen before the trip and tell them where you want to go.

Here is a short list of the most popular spots for island hopping, according to mactanislandhopping.com

  • Nalusuan Island
  • Pandanon Island
  • Caohagan Island
  • Hilutungan Island

They are part of the Olango group of islands, southeast of Mactan. Hilutungan Island has a government-protected reef with rich marine life and corals that freedivers will be excited to see.

Nalusuan is abundant in sea cucumbers. Pandanon, one of the farthest remote islands from the mainland, is perfect for family swimming thanks to its white sand beaches, shallow waters, and comfortable cottages.

Finally, Caohagan is one of the smaller island hopping destinations but one of the most visited. It has a lush forest, a beautiful beach, and small businesses selling fresh seafood and souvenirs.

Visit and experience the beautiful islands in the Philippines at an affordable price!

  • YOU CAN DO IT ALL IN ONE DAY

Most island hopping tours in Mactan won’t take more than a day. They usually start early in the morning and end early in the afternoon to avoid the rough seas.

The time frame for island hopping allows travelers to include the activity in their itineraries. The tours usually end at around 3:00 to 4:00 PM, giving you ample time to do more things in the evening.

You may have to wake up early or stay somewhere close to the island to be on time for the tour. However, some resorts in Mactan, like the Cebu White Sands Resort, offer island hopping packages to their guests.

For years, island hopping has continued to be one of Cebu’s most popular recreational activities. These tours are perfect for those looking to relax and unwind away from the busy city.

When you’re with family or a group of friends, it’s easier to manage your budget. But you can also have this as a dating activity with your significant other.

With the many things you can do in Cebu, this should be a dead-ringer for an exciting summer getaway.

What are you waiting for? Book a tour, hop onto a bangka, and traverse the vast oceans of Cebu. It’s time to hang out, have fun, and keep away from all the stress.

Happy hopping!
