Osmeña Peak: Get to Know Cebu’s Favorite Camping Site

Share this:

Osmeña Peak is Cebu’s highest peak, famous for its beginner-friendly hiking trail.

Mountain hiking is extremely therapeutic not only for its strenuous and lively workout, but also for getting to soak in and experience the soothing, countryside air.

It’s become one of Cebu’s most celebrated outdoor recreational activities, with many hikers going on trekking trips and sometimes camping out to enjoy a break from all the hustle and bustle of work and adulthood.

In Cebu, there are many mountains that have become hiking havens, but one can argue that none has had a more significant impact than Osmeña Peak.

Standing 1,013 meters above sea level, it is the tallest peak on the island, famous for its stunning views of rock formations and forests that your eyes will definitely feast on.

Despite being located in Badian, Osmeña Peak is most accessible through Mantalongon in Dalaguete, which is considered Cebu’s vegetable basket because of its abundance of freshly grown produce.

It is considered one of the easiest hiking trails in Cebu, especially since it only takes less than 30 minutes, and going up the hill to its tourism center is possible by car or motorcycle.

It’s a must-try activity in Cebu, especially for trekking enthusiasts and camping lovers.

TREKKING OSMEÑA PEAK

Many have gone to Osmeña Peak to go on mountain hiking trips with friends and family.

If going to Osmeña Peak is a priority on your itinerary, it’s recommended to book a stay somewhere in Moalboal or Oslob. These places are notable for having a number of tourist spots that are also worth visiting.

From Cebu City, you have to take a bus from Cebu South Terminal that will pass through Dalaguete. Tell the driver or his assistant to drop you off at the Dalaguete junction, where you can find some habal-habal drivers.

The ride going up to the Hiker’s Center will take around 20 to 30 minutes and you can pay extra to have your driver wait for you.

However, they do have a spacious parking area, and you can pay any amount as a donation. Php20 is good enough, but you can always add more if you want to support the locals.

The entrance fee is Php150, which includes the payment for the guide. You can expect the trek to take around 15 to 20 minutes, with only a few steep climbs along the way.

In the middle of the trail, you will find several small shops selling souvenirs, shirts, and more. They even have a few snacks and drinks that you can take with you on your journey.

WHAT WILL PIQUE YOUR INTEREST

There is a lot to look forward to at this famous campsite in Cebu.

At the top, you will find a stunning panoramic view of the mountains, some picturesque rock formations, a view of the ocean, and even the neighboring islands of Negros and Bohol.

The rock formations are often compared to the Chocolate Hills in Bohol, as they seem endless, spanning many, many acres of land. Those who will see this for the first time may have a lot of questions as to how they came to be.

It offers a unique view that is perfect for photos.

If you go to Osmeña Peak during its peak hours, where there are a lot more tourists, you will have to wait for your turn to pose by the rock formations. Then again, it will definitely be worth it.

Many frequent trekkers in Osmeña Peak love going at dawn to avoid the crowds of visitors in the morning and to experience the breathtaking sunrise from Cebu’s highest peak.

Also, due to the cool weather from this altitude, many have considered it an ideal campsite in Cebu. The camping fee is Php50 per person, but you will need to bring your own tent and camping gear.

Camping out in the mountains is a one-of-a-kind experience, as it’s just you and your friends out in the wilderness. You are free from the stress of work-life and the distractions of technology, and you can focus on having a memorable time with your friends.

You can also go from Osmeña Peak to Kawasan Falls, which is another popular option for trekkers.

Kawasan Falls is one of the biggest waterfall systems in the country, where visitors can climb and move through different rock formations. It’s also one of the must-try activities when in Cebu.

A lot of tourists visit Cebu to experience the picturesque countryside. The view from Osmeña Peak is definitely one for the books. Just make sure you’re well prepared and have enough energy to go hiking through the famous trail up until you get to the top.

If you want, you can book tours that include a hike to Osmeña Peak as part of the package. Whether you’re there to camp, trek, or just see the view, you don’t want to miss out on this famous mountainside attraction.
