This October, you won’t have to go “super far” to say “ILYSB.”

The American pop group LANY is returning to Cebu for the Asian leg of their “a beautiful blur: the world tour” on October 13, 2024 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

Consisting of vocalist Paul Jason Klein and drummer Jake Clifford Goss, the duo will perform hit songs from their 2023 album, which includes streaming favorites like Cause You Have To, Alonica, and Out of My League.

Allmusic.com describes the indie-pop group’s sound as a combination of “80s radio pop, 90s R&B soul, and atmospheric synths.” They are known for other tear-jerking pop hits like Malibu Nights, Thick and Thin, and 13.

Before performing in Cebu, the duo will have a show at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan on October 12. The band will also perform in four other cities in Asia in the same month.

They will be making stops in Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea in September.

Cebu has become an important touring location because of the number of avid fans the band gets on music apps and streaming services like Spotify.

As of March 2024, three Philippine cities recorded the highest monthly listeners for the band. Cebu City was once one of the top 5 monthly listeners for the band in 2020.

PREVIOUS CONCERTS

This is not the first time the duo have come to the country, as they previously held a five-day concert at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena on November 11, 12, 13, 15, and 16 back in2022.

The concert featured local musical acts including Zack Tabudlo and Juan Karlos Labajo.

LANY first visited the Philippines in 2017, then returned for more shows a year later. In 2019 – when the group was still a trio – they had three successive sold out shows at the MOA Arena.

Subsequently, the trio headlined the PLUS63 Music Festival at Mandani Bay on February 2, 2020. The festival also featured Cebuano musical acts Three Legged Men, Mandaue Nights, and Sepia Times.

HISTORY

The original members consisted of Klein, Goss, and former keyboardist Les Priest, who left the band in 2022 to pursue being a songwriter.

The band started by uploading their songs on SoundCloud, where many other independent artists post their songs for people to listen to.

Their name is an ode to the two great American cities Los Angeles and New York, highlighting their desire to spread their music from coast to coast.

While some of their songs gained massive recognition, it was their smash hit “ILYSB” that gained worldwide attention. They are now one of the hottest indie-pop bands in the world, with over 7 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Their studio albums Lany and Malibu Nights earned Double Diamond and Diamond awards in the Philippines, respectively.

Today, the band continues to create hit after hit, collaborating with other artists such as Lauv and Kelsea Ballerini.
