Though most tourist spots in Cebu are found in the province, the city is doing its best to provide more options. You can see this as more businesses open up at South Road Properties. What used to be a long highway to connect Cebu City and other areas in Talisay City is now starting to become the best place to unwind in Cebu. In a few years, there will be so many things to do in Cebu when in South Road Properties.
Cebu South Road Properties is a 300 hectare reclamation area that spans mainland Cebu and Kawit Island. This is the road that most people use if they are headed to Southern Cebu destinations as it connects to Talisay in the south. You can access it through the Mambaling Access Road or the SRP tunnel. Unfortunately, not a lot of traditional public transport can be seen here, so you might have to ride either a bus or a taxi.
There are already a couple of things to do at SRP to get your Cebu City travel fix, and you can bet that there is more to come. Take note of these things the next time you plan on visiting Cebu.
1. Shop at SM Seaside Cebu and Il Corso
The best places to shop at South Road Properties are in SM Seaside Cebu or Il Corso. These two malls have an extremely modern looking design that you will not see in other malls in Cebu. They are great for those who want to search for the most popular brands, as well as those who want a great view of the city.
SM Seaside Cebu is one of the country’s biggest malls, and arguably the biggest in Cebu. This is famous for having many things to do such as the ice skating rink, archery, and the director’s club cinema. There is also the sky park which is a very instagrammable venue where you can sit down and relax atop the elevated area. This is also a great place for an aerial view of Cebu City.
Il Corso is found a few meters ahead of SM Seaside, but is known for its resort-esque design. Since it is by the sea, you can say that this is where you can have the best sunset view of Cebu City. This is a great place for dining and shopping, but it is also made famous because of its state of the art cinemas.
Both of these malls can be accessed by riding a MyBus at SM City Cebu, but you can also walk from the Mambaling Access Road to go to SM Seaside. From there, you can ride a taxi or a bus that would bring you to Il Corso.
2. Cebu Ocean Park
Right behind SM Seaside Cebu is Cebu Ocean Park, the very first marine park in Visayas and Mindanao, which also has the largest oceanarium in the Philippines. Yes that’s right, this is bigger than the already huge Manila Ocean Park.
This is a great place for those who treat wildlife watching as a recreational activity, but do not have the time and luxury to travel to the Cebu Safari. You can check their website to see the types of animals you will be able to witness inside the park. You are going to have to pull out your wallets because the entrance fee is 600php for weekdays and 800php for weekends. To experience one of the biggest tourist spots in Cebu, you know that it will be worth it.
What We Can Expect:
1. Cebu – Cordova Link Expressway
A project that looks to be finished in a few years that could help many travelers and tourists is the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway, also known as the CCLEX. This is going to be Cebu’s longest bridge, and it aims to connect the municipality of Cordova in the North to Cebu City, making it easier for people to experience Northern Cebu’s many tourist spots.
This project is still in construction and is targeted to be finished by 2021. This is a great advantage for people who love going on roadtrips and enjoying a great view since the bridge is right above the sea.
2. Seaside Arena
A lot of Cebuanos get sad because they will have to travel to Manila to see their favorite celebrities. They might not have to wait any longer. The Cebu City government has recently brought about the idea of creating an indoor arena called the Seaside Arena.
This 26 hectare project is said to have a 16,000 seating capacity, which is almost as big as the SM Mall of Asia, where most celebrities perform. It is said to be located right across SM Seaside Cebu. Though they have already started construction, this project is targeted to finish in 2025.
3. Isla de la Victoria
Arguably the city’s most daring project with an investment of 25 billion pesos, this aims to bring a big business sector to Kawit Island. This project will offer many things to do because of the planned building of malls, bars, theaters, restaurants, and casinos.
With Gokongwei’s permission to start building the project, vertical construction has already started and its completion date will be in 2021.
There are many places to go around in Cebu, whether in the city or the countryside. South Road Properties is starting to improve the city to its highest potential. Some of the things that they are pulling out are among the best things to expect in the coming years. We are slowly getting to the point where we won’t run out of things to do in Cebu. Along with its tourism sector, the businesses that are being planned are beginning to excite locals and tourists alike.
