All three structures were revealed on the same day on October 18th, 2023, with Danao City Mayor Thomas Mark Durano and Vice Mayor Ramon Durano III leading the groundbreaking ceremonies in Barangay Poblacion.

These structures could improve the city’s development by preserving its history, offering better quality services to locals and providing an ideal hangout spot within the metro.

The local government revealed their new public market, aptly called Merkado sa Danao (Market in Danao or Danao Market).

The structure will now have better amenities and services such as a system to catch rainwater, solar power, and improved ventilation. The project is worth over Php 500 million with over Php 100 million to be used for a new slaughterhouse.

The old Danao Market was engulfed in a fire in June 2022, destroying over 100 stalls worth Php 52 million, displacing vendors and causing them to relocate.

The vendors were present at the groundbreaking ceremony, with government officials promising their return to the market once it is finished.

THE CITY’S FIRST MUSEUM

The government also revealed the first cultural museum in the city.

They also unveiled the city’s first cultural museum, which will stand where Danao Provincial High School and Danao Police Station once was. This too was destroyed by a fire in 2015.

The soon-to-rise Museo de Danao will have two floors within an 800 square meter area and will house many different heirlooms and artifacts pertaining to the city’s history.

This will serve as a public library as well, with extra space for workshops for recreational activities like pottery and painting.

Lastly, this is where the Danao City Tourism Office will be located.

Mayor Durano stressed the importance of having a cultural museum as it teaches younger generations to value the city’s rich history and understand how it came to be.

The final infrastructure revealed was the new and improved Sidlak Park, which has a brand new signage, highlighting the town’s famous tagline.

The iconic “Sidlak Danao” sign has now been fashioned as an acronym that depicts the town’s core values and principles. Each letter coincides with:

S – Servant Leadership

I – Inclusivity

D – Developmental

L – Livable

A – Adaptability

K – Knowledge

D – Dynamic

A – Accountable

N – Nurturing

A – Action

O – Order

Sidlak Park was recently destroyed, this time after the onslaught of Typhoon Haiyan in 2021.

The nature park overlooks the ocean and has walkways and benches where residents can relax and chill. It’s also close to other notable spots in Danao, such as the Sands shopping mall.
